Three Norfolk is a collection of 15 expansive residences inspired by the open spaces of neighbouring Surrey Gardens, the charm of its village setting and the character of its surrounding tree-lined streets.
Wulff Projects has assembled an exceptional team, including Bruce Henderson Architects, Bruce Henderson Interiors and Ben Scott Garden Design, to craft an address which encapsulates the quintessential quality of Surrey Hills.
Designed by Bruce Henderson Architects, the architecture embraces views of the green surroundings and the city skyline beyond, with dual aspect living featuring light from both the south and north, and cross ventilation which allows the interiors to breathe.
The architecture of Three Norfolk is inspired by the adjacent Surrey Gardens – the rhythm of its trees, the sense of space, the calming colours. With rising columns, open terraces and lush planters, here the traditional boundary between the built and natural environment falls away.
The building’s façade opens up toward the expanses of the park, inviting light and views within. The elegant stone-clad columns cast patterns of light and shadow across the building and respond to the changing light and seasons.
Taking inspiration from Japanese minimalism, the lobby incorporates lightwells and landscaping, as well as a focus on natural light and natural materials. The result is a tranquil and welcoming space which echoes the surrounding environment.
The interiors of Three Norfolk embrace the balance of the contemporary and the classic which defines the character of Surrey Hills. The design by Bruce Henderson Interiors features strong horizontal and vertical lines, as well as connections with the gardens, whether framing the views of greenery or featuring natural materials such as timber battens and stone benchtops.
Refined and minimal, yet also imbued with warmth and personality, the interior design impresses as much for its practical benefits as for its visual appeal.
In the kitchen, full-height joinery conceals ample storage and butler’s pantries, while the detailed profile island bench doubles as an elegant breakfast bar.
The Miele appliances include a five-burner cooktop, oven and steam oven. The benchtop, splashback and island bench are all natural stone.
Adding to the considered quality of Three Norfolk’s interior design is a series of bespoke lighting elements by Alex Earl in each of the residences and communal ground floor lobby.
The landscape architecture by Ben Scott Garden Design is a fundamental element of how the building interacts within its established setting on Surrey Gardens. Externally, the landscaping softens the appearance of the built form while also providing privacy to the residences. From within, the landscaping filters and frames the views to the green spaces, the neighbourhood and beyond.
